What does it mean to be a special district board member?

Being a board member on a special district board entails a commitment to being actively involved in setting the direction of the district and, most importantly, serving the best interests of the community and district constituents.

Election (2024)

Nominations filing schedule will be posted a minimum of six (6) months prior to election. Filing period for 2024 election is July 15, 2024-Aug. 9, 204.

Campaign Guide and Calendar of Events

Candidates must appear in person to the Registrar of Voters Office, during normal business hours, to file their documents with original signatures, and take their oath prior to the filing deadline.  Office hours are M-F from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., excluding holidays. How to become a candidate

1)      Decide if you are going to do the optional Statement of Qualifications. (200 word statement). 

(SOQ prices will be available closer to the opening of Nominations, please note prices have increased because Sonoma is now a bilingual county)

2)      You should think about how you want your name to appear on the ballot and what you would want to use for a ballot designation. 

 (Ballot Designation: 3 words or less to describe your primary occupation or vocation.) 

3)      You would complete a Statement of Economic Interests Form 700 (ca.gov).

(Check the “Candidate Box and put the Election Year” on the Cover sheet and fill out any schedules that apply.)

4.)  Campaign Statements (Campaign Finance)

a.      Do NOT plan on raising or spending any money - Form 470 (ca.gov)

b.      Plan on spending up to $1,999 - Form 470 (ca.gov) & CA Form 501

c.       Plan on spending OVER $2,000  - Form 410 (ca.gov) & CA Form 501

6.) Declaration of Candidacy (available in Registrar of Voters Office only)

(You will complete this final document when you come in to do your nomination paperwork)

There is no filing fee for Special Districts. Candidate must be a customer and live in the FORESTVILLE WATER district and is a registered voter.
